Agarose electrophoresis gel

In horizontal agarose electrophoresis, gel is usually immersed in agarose electrophoresis running buffer in a horizontal gel apparatus, known as submarine agarose electrophoresis. The high conductivity of electrophoresis buffer is required to conduct electric current from electrode to agarose gel for electrophoresis of sample molecules. Heat is generated during agarose gel electrophoresis which can melt the agarose gel and cause failure of the electrophoresis experiment. To avoid agarose electrophoresis gel melting, the submarine agarose electrophoresis has to be slow at low voltage.
